HS Timber Group (former Holzindustrie Schweighofer) is expanding its portfolio by building a modern sawmill in Svisloch, the Grodno region, Belarus. The investment amounts to Euro 84 million.
After a three-year lead time, the building permit has been issued and the groundbreaking ceremony takes place on 18 December, 2020.
Completion is expected in spring 2022. In the current expansion stage, the sawmill, processing pine and spruce logs, has an annual sawing capacity of 500,000 m3 of coniferous roundwood. This will correspond to a 10% increase in production. The focus is on further processing and connected pelleting.
“We are implementing a very interesting project. It is a good location from the point of view of logistics and workforce, advantages of the free economic zone. On the whole, Belarus is attractive from the economic point of view. I am confident the project will be a success,” said Jurgen Bergner, a member of the Board of HS Timber Group.
The projected sawmill in Belarus complements the group’s existing production sites in Germany and Romania. It offers excellent connection to the Polish port of Gdansk.
HS Timber Group is one of the leading wood processing companies in Europe.
